Mustangs Hold on to 2nd place after Saturday's Challenge againt the Challengers
Embrach Mustang's first encounter with the Zurich Challengers on Saturday was split. />
Both teams had line-ups that were slightly altered due to injuries, retireings, or no shows. That did not slow the competition in the double header as both teams left with 2 hard fought wins.
In the first game Embrach went with their go to Swiss pitcher Roger Savoldelli. Once again he went the distance pitching all 9 innings. Savoldelli recorded his 5th complete game of the season and 5th win on the mound. The game went smoth as the Mustangs cruised to a 9-4 victory over the Challengers. Lead off hitter Harry Wieschnewski and 3rd baseman Josh Crouse both had two hits. The only hint of a comeback from the Challengers came in the top of the 6th inning when back to back hits by Shemley and Siegrist turned into a couple of runs. Embrach sealed the deal in the bottom of the 8th with a 2 out double by Thomas Fasching that plated 2 more Mustang runners stretching the lead to 6.
Game two had a different outcome. Early in the first inning the Mustangs looked to be headed toward a second vicotry, but after a 2 run first inning on base hits from Wieschnewski and Crouse, the horses ran out of steam. Embrach let up offensively most of the game and had defensive break downs in the 5th and 6th. The Zurich Challengers did not hold back, and took advantage of all of Embrach's mistakes.
Embrach's 3rd and final run came in the 3rd inning on an RBI from 2nd baseman/pitcher Chris Byrnes. Crouse started the game for the Stangs and was relieved by Byrnes in the 5th. Byrnes went on to finish the game. Mustangs earned their 2nd loss of the season, losing 7-3 with 4 errors and a season low 4 hits.
With a record of 8-2 Embrach remains in 2nd place in the NLA behind only the Therwil Flyers. Embrach intends to only get stronger from here on out with the help of a new American infielder, JJ Swartz . He will be eligible to play his first NLA game in next weeks match up when the Mustangs take on the Luzern Eagles at Reussbühl Hinterruopigen field.

Die Embracher starteten furios und konnten die Gäste schon früh unter Druck setzten. Fehler der Challengers, aggressives Baserunning und zwei drei gute Schläge seitens der Mustangs und schon lag man Mitte des Spiels mit 7:0 in Führung. Savoldelli Werfer für die Embracher konnte sich auf seine Hinterleute verlassen und zeigte einmal mehr eine solide Vorstellung. Die Schlagstarken Zürcher hatten Mühe gegen die defensiv gut organisierten Embracher, so war der Sieg nie in Gefahr und zum Schluss hiess es 9:4 zu Gunsten der Unterländer.
Das 2. Spiel des Tages verlief zu Beginn gleich wie das erste, die Mustangs gingen mit 3:0 in Führung. Im 4. Schlagdurchgang konnten die C's 2 Punkte nach Hause bringen und im 5. Inning kam die Wende des Spiels. Die Embracher mussten 3 Runs abgeben, dank 3 groben Schnitzern in der Abwehr liessen sie die Gäste davonziehen und konnten selber nicht mehr reagieren. Mit 7:3 ging ein Spiel zu Ende, dass man auch gewinnen hätte können. Man kann sicher zufrieden sein mit der Leistung, denn man hat einen weiteren Schritt Richtung Play Offs getan..
Am kommenden Samstag treffen die Unterländer auswärts auf die Eagles in Reussbühl, wo man 2 Siege erwartet.
