PostHeaderIcon Embrach Mustangs Sweep at Zürich Heerenschürli

Print
The first game of the double header this weekend in Zurich got out of hand early in the first inning.  The Embrach Mustangs plated 10 runs before recording an out off the Barracuda's defense.  All 9 batters in the Mustang line-up scored in the top of the first, the total 11 runs in the inning were ultimately enough to take down the Barracudas.  In each the 5th and 6th inning the Mustangs piled on 3 more runs which was enough to end the game after only 7 innings with a final score of 17-3.  The Mustang's offense had 12 hits speard out through the 7 innings however most of their runs came on Barracuda errors or walked batters.

Roger Savoldelli earned the win for the Mustangs as he allowed only 3 runs that came in the 5th and 6th inning.  This is his 7th win of the season and 6th complete game on the year.

Game two of the day was not such a casual trot for the Mustangs. Embrach had their hands full at the plate facing the Barracuda's American pitcher, Derek Bondo.  From the start it was clear the game was going to be a classic pitchers dule when both Bondo and Embrach's Josh Crouse showed up to pitch with their best stuff.

After a couple scoreless innings, the Mustangs scratched across their first run in the 3rd.  Oliver Walser led the inning off with a hit.  He moved to 2nd on a base hit by Crouse and eventually scored on a fielders choice and error by the Barracudas.  The Mustangs tacked on another run in the 5th and 3 more in the 7th, but 1 run was all they needed.  Josh Crouse was a force on the mound allowing only 3 hits in the complete game shut out, he also got great help from an errorless defense.

At the plate Mustangs hitters: Oliver Walser, Chris Hutchinson, and Harry Wischnewski all had multi-hit games against Derek Bondo.

With this two game sweep over the Barracudas, the Mustangs hold onto a secure 2nd place spot in the NLA and appear to be well on their way to a playoff appearance. Embrach's record is 12-2, just 1 game out of first and 5 games ahead of the 3rd place teams. The Mustangs will be back in action in 2 weeks when they take on the 1st place Therwil Flyers.
